Section
of the Brazilian Ornithological Records Committee - CBRO - in the Ararajuba,
the Brazilian Journal of Ornithology, published by the Brazilian Ornithological
Society - SBO.
Starting
in December of 2002, the Ararajuba inaugurated a new section destined to
print the scientific notes published through the CBRO.
Since
1999, the CBRO is providing an important service to the Brazilian ornithological
community by organizing and maintaining an up to date list of Brazilian birds.
Although the CBRO has broader objectives for the future, since its foundation it
has been concerned mainly with the critical and discerning evaluation of the
records of birds for
The
deliberations of the Committee have been published in the CBRO's periodical Nattereria,
which can be viewed at the CBRO site on the Internet. Besides, the CBRO has
always encouraged the publication of new information that could result in a
better understanding of the occurrence, distribution and nomenclature of the
Brazilian birds. This has been done directly through especially formulated
invitations to the information holders, or indirectly, when calling the
attention to the fact that the records for certain species are still not
documented.
Until
recently, the notes derived from the research work of the CBRO members, or
submitted by other researchers, were published in the Nattereria. However,
starting in the third issue, the Nattereria went on to publish only the
deliberations of the Committee, for financial reasons. Starting in December of
2002, those notes have been published in the new section of the Ararajuba,
which results in a salutary partnership between the Brazilian Ornithological
Society and the CBRO, supported by their common purposes and
complementary objectives. The CBRO can count on one of the most important venues
for the publication of its production, which will certainly guarantee a greater
visibility to the notes published by the Committee. The Ararajuba, on its
turn, consolidates itself ever more as the main vehicle for scientific
publication of the Brazilian ornithology, by publishing relevant information of
interest to their readers.
Any
researcher who has unpublished information related to the matters treated by the
CBRO can submit their manuscripts. The focus of interest is notes that:
|
|
Present unpublished bird records
for |
|
|
Reveal the existence of material
evidence related to the record of species without previously known
documentation; |
|
|
Rectify citations of species for
the country which were merely derived from unsubstantiated extrapolations; |
|
|
Revise the records of species still
poorly known in |
|
|
Tackle cases of nomenclatural
alterations. |
The
norms for publication in this section are the same ones required by the Ararajuba,
except that the CBRO, because of the nature of the information that constitute
the object of its work, will accept conference proceedings as bibliographical
references. The process of scientific review and the editing of the articles
published in this section are completely independent from that of the Ararajuba.
The articles are reviewed by the members of the CBRO or, exceptionally, by
reviewers especially invited by the Committee to this end. The criteria are
already explicit in the Nattereria or in the site of the Committee, and
the information published in this section is of sole responsibility of the CBRO.
The contributions should be sent to the Chief Editor of the Ararajuba. The illustrations (preferentially one per note) can also be sent in digital media (directions should be obtained from the editor).
The CBRO also intends to publish in its site any supplementary documentation for the records published in the Ararajuba, such as additional or color versions of the pictures, at the authors' discretion. Once the note is published in the Ararajuba, any of this extra material should be sent to the webmaster of this site.
