Resolução N^o 127 – Substituir Hoploxypterus Bonaparte, 1856 por Vanellus Brisson, 1760 na lista principal de aves brasileiras.

  Seguindo a tendência verificada na literatura ornitológica recente (Hayman et al. 1986, Sibley & Monroe 1990, Parker et al. 1996, Wiersma 1996, Clements 2000, SACC 2003), recomenda-se o uso da combinação Vanellus cayanus (Latham, 1790) em lugar de manter essa espécie no gênero monotípico Hoploxypterus. [Embora Ridgely & Greenfield (2001) tenham apoiado a manutenção de Hoploxypterus em razão de uma alegada maior afinidade com o gênero Charadrius Linnaeus, 1758 (e.g. Strauch 1978), uma reanálise do caso é desejável (SACC 2003).]
