Resolução N^o 125 – Substituir Porphyriops Pucheran, 1845 por Gallinula Brisson, 1760 na lista principal de aves brasileiras.

   Olson (1973) sustentou, com base em caracteres osteológicos, que o gênero monotípico Porphyriops não possui diferenças substanciais que justifiquem sua separação de Gallinula. Adicionalmente, a combinação Gallinula melanops (Vieillot, 1819) vem se tornando preponderante em obras referenciais recentes (Sibley & Monroe 1990, Taylor 1996, Taylor & van Perlo 1998, Clements 2000, SACC 2003).
